dance in Dublin and a public square in Budapest. One of the entries
for the RIAS Silver Medal, by Yannis Christodoulou, David Maciver
and Graeme McRobbie from the Scott Sutherland School, was
awarded the Sust. Award for sustainability.
.01 winner
Ewan’s thesisi project, “The (super) modification of Gallowgate ‘B’”, proposes a method for modifying the landscape, housing and lifestyle in Glasgow’s deprived Gallowgate area, to produce an enduring transformation as an alternative project starts with the broadest outlook and homes into the small and intimate.
Judges' comments: A thorough analysis and wellpresented proposal addressing issues of community renewal, urban design and landscaping. Creative solutions for regeneration of city housing stock in a sustainable manner. The process here is an essential part of the product. A project full of intelligence, integrity and relevance. How refreshing to see architecture without ego. The Islamic Centre in Venice of his 4th year work read against the housing project in the East End of Glasgow of his 5th year work make a fascinating portfolio of diverse thought and approaches to architecture and the people who inhabit it. Architecture is an art but it is also carries social responsibilities - this winning portfolio demonstrates both - all of it shown with utter clarity.

The Archives of Building Archaeology are a national network of archives that commemorate Scotland's heritage. A map locates the distribution of archives within Glasgow; the sites are derived from the distribution of modern day ruins, knitted into the city's urban fabric and occupying 10 per cent of Glasgow.
Judges' comments: A poetic exploration with strong analysis and imagination showing how we could record and respond to unused structures in the city, and an approach to how history can be recorded and communicated. Well thought out and a rigorously detailed piece of research - one judge mentioned that this project could be a pointer for Cardross seminary.
